Extractions

We will do what it takes to protect your teeth. Sometimes, however, it does become necessary for teeth to be removed. In the event that an extraction is needed, you can trust us to be precise and gentle. We will make your procedure as efficient and as comfortable as possible. We care deeply about your health and well-being and will ensure your total comfort.

Simple and Surgical Extractions

Extractions come in two main types – simple and surgical. The kind of extraction you will need depends on the location of your tooth, the reason for the extraction, and whether or not the tooth is impacted (partially or completely covered by the bone).

The majority of the extractions we perform at our dental office are simple extractions.

You may need an extraction if:

  • Your tooth has become seriously infected and a root canal has failed.
  • Your tooth is damaged by injury or decay to the point where it cannot provide a stable enough bonding surface for repair with a crown.
  • Your teeth or bite are misaligned to the point of creating complications, and extractions are necessary to make room for orthodontic treatment.

The procedure for a simple extraction is fairly straightforward. We will use anesthetic to numb you, and then your tooth is gently lifted and extracted. The procedure typically takes minutes, and you can expect a quick healing time.

Surgical extractions are performed in the case of impacted wisdom teeth that are placing your other teeth at risk, or if a tooth has broken off below the gum line. In some cases, the tooth may not have developed or erupted properly, and a surgical extraction may be necessary to remove it. If a surgical extraction is deemed necessary, we would refer this procedure to a specialist.

If you have a severely damaged or broken tooth or suspect you may need an extraction, do not hesitate to contact us. Schedule an examination and consultation at our Pacific Heights dental office.
