Soft Tissue Laser Dentistry
We are dedicated to providing our patients with the most up-to-date, state-of-the-art dentistry available. Soft tissue laser dentistry is a technological development that is changing the way that dentists perform many common procedures, from periodontal care to biopsies to aesthetic dentistry.
How Is Soft Tissue Laser Dentistry Different?
Soft tissue dental lasers allow us to perform a number of procedures less invasively and more comfortably than ever before. The soft tissue lasers reduce the risk of bleeding and allow for faster healing following treatment, with less risk of complication. Soft tissue lasers also allow for these procedures to be performed more efficiently and more accurately than handheld tools and instruments.
Dental lasers for soft tissue are especially helpful in the field of periodontal care – the area of dentistry that focuses on the health of your gum and bone tissue. Periodontal disease is extremely common, affecting nearly half of all adults in the U.S. over the age of 30. Once periodontal disease reaches a certain point, it cannot be cured, only managed. Periodontal disease causes deep pockets to form between your gums and your teeth. These pockets then become a place where bacteria can thrive, causing infection and damage to the roots of your teeth and surrounding bone, which often leads to tooth loss.
Previously, the best way to manage this condition was with regular deep cleanings using manual tools. As you might imagine, this was not always the most comfortable procedure and it was nearly impossible to completely clear out the infection. Now, soft tissue dental lasers allow us to perform this procedure with minimal bleeding. The soft tissue laser can target and destroy the bacteria and damaged tissue with pinpoint precision, preserving more of your own healthy gum tissue. The soft tissue lasers also effectively clean and smooth the roots of your teeth, creating a surface that is more difficult for bacteria to cling to in the future.
